Living over a laundrette?

Hi folks,
we have the chance to live in a lovely flat however it is situated over a laundrette. So my questions are: Is it ok regarding noise, vibration, smells, safety, any other points to consider? If anyone has any experience of this it would be most helpful in our decision making.

Is this for renting or buying?0

Visit it whilst the launderette is open. Shut all windows. listen. Smell.
What time does it shut?0 -
I used to live above a greengrocers but there was a launderette next door to it. We didn't have any problems with noise or smells. In fact it was a bonus as I didn't have far to take my washing! I had a washing machine but I would use the tumble driers as I didn't have anywhere to hang out the washing. I don't know whether the launderette would cause any damp/condensation with all that wet washing but it should make the flat lovely and warm from the tumble driers.0

I wouldn't be too keen You can smell a laundrette from a few meters away so living above it you must smell it a lot. Also the constant drumming of away of the machines would do my head in. Not to forget it may keep you warm in winter but even warmer in summer.
I would go during a normal working day and see what, noise, smells etc are like.0 -
Do they carry out dry cleaning? Have a look for where the extractor outlets are if so.0

Our local laundrette closed (as more and more people have washing machines now...) and was replaced by a betting shop, which attracted no end of odd bods.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Thanks for your help everyone,
regarding buying or renting, we are buying and have covered most points with our searches, etc, but wanted any info from people with first hand experience of living above.
There are extractor fans outside and we are told they are all in line with regulations. Regulations are one thing, having to live above is another issue!
Our main worries were noise and vibration.
Thanks again for your help.0 -

Is there permanent staff to keep an eye on things. Without that, I'd avoid as they'll be drunks and students larking about.0
