My husband likes to make pastry with one of those things that looks like a cross between a potato masher and a knuckle-duster. He used to have a large one from Canada, but it eventually wore out and now he cannot find one to fit his (average-sized male) hands - they are all made to fit women's hands. Does anyone know where we might get a larger one?

    Hello Ness,

Did you find one in the end? I'm after a man size one myself. I've found loads of them on the internet, but I need to know how sturdy they are.

The chef in this YouTube pastry video (well worth a look for pastry novices like me), has advised a strong pastry cutter to stop it slipping over the butter. I would rather pay a little extra than have an annoying cheaper version.

Hi, yes I got one at a cookshop in the next town. I t has masterclass written on the side quite small so I guess that's the make. Just right for a man's hands and sturdy enough to make pastry for pasties for Cornish pasties for eight - no trouble!

Just googled it and it's definitely the more expensive 'professional' one.
  • I have serious breathing problems and could not make pastry without a cutter. They are fantastic, my other little tip is to put your bowl in the sink while working the pastry, you can get a bit more leaverage.
