Bad credit score: How can I improve?

Hi,

I've recently applied for a credit card and was told that i have a low credit score. I made the calssice mistake of apllying for a card a year ago and then reapplying, then reapplying and I think sit's seriously damaged my score. I have paid all my payments on time and have savings and have been very good at keeping on top of things and checking my credit report has been no help. Experian can offer no reason why i am being refused. i can't even get a mobile because of this.

What can I do?

Have you checked your Equifax file also, if you are even getting turned down for mobile phones then it is potentially something far more serious than a few searches ( which expire after 12 months anyway),

is there any negative history, or very late payments / defaults on the file your have from Experian, and are you correctly registered on the electoral roll

I haven't checked Equifax, I keep getting referred to Experian who have told me that they can't see a problem with my file. They say I have a low credit score due to the searches from various companies. I think I may have applied for 4 or 5 credit applications in a row and it's been hell ever since. I thought that being turned down for a mobile was a little harsh but i should check Equifax because I have one or 2 late payments in my entire history and that's about it. I was told that I may have too many credit cards which I hadn't actually closed so i called them all and closed them dow. I was then told that it could be that I had too many searches so I was advised to stop applying for 3 months. I waited 6 and I've still not had any joy. I've written to as the credit company who refused me a few days ago said they can't give me any info and that i would have to have my report in order to discuss what the problem is...they can't be very specific.

i'd check all the credit reference agencies see what the reports say
