world books offer 6 books for 6p & free P&P when you join up. It says you have to purchase a further 4 books in your first year. Has anyone done this?

Yes goof offer if you really want the books I did it at xmas for pressies ordered 6 penny ones then soon after 4 more all at once to save postage is it's quite dear and per order not per book.
Don't fall out with them customer service awful they threaten legal action at the drop of a hat!0 -
Tell me about it!surfsister wrote:Don't fall out with them customer service awful they threaten legal action at the drop of a hat!
They were still intent on taking my Mother to court six months after they'd been told she had died
They still kept sending the "Editor's Choice" though.Can I help?0 -
Steer well clear of world books, I was with them years ago and they wouldn't let me cancel, they just kept sending me out the book of the month and I had tried to cancel 4 times in writing in the end I told them I would just leave their books out on the doorstep if they sent anymore, they threatened me with court action too but I actually moved about a month later and have no idea what happened after that. For all I know there is a pile a mile high of their books sitting outside my old house to this day. Don't take up their offer they are like leeches never let go. Good luck. Better off getting loads of cheap books in charity shops

I have had nightmare experiences with these leeches too, impossible to cancel or sort problems out.WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..

When I was studying contract law, I was told that if they send you a book you do not have to pay for it or return it as a contract is not formed by them sending you a book and hence no obligation on your part rises.0

If you have said you do not want the books (and have already fulfilled your commitment to buy) then they are unsolicited goods and all you have to do is tell them where to collect them... if they do not then 6 months later the goods are yours!! My daughter got a lovely mobile phone from a company trying to scam her into a contract until I pointed out the above to them and she never heard from them again and still has the phone !!!£2 saver club £16 so far!! - it's growing!!! :j

After reading these horror stories I guess I'm one of the lucky few. I joined them last year and ordered 6 books for 6p. I then ordered the remaining 4 books in one go a few months later to save on postage as someone has already advised. After that I cancelled my account without any problems. I don't know if this has any effect but all my correspondence with them was through their website. I never contacted them by phone or by writing.I

have used them in past, done everything online, always got email confirming no editors choice to be sent.
Not cheapest though... you might find those 4 books can be expensive.Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
So why then this company not been on BBC watchdog to all the complaints so far or have they been on?.0

I was with another book club, I think it probably works out about even as they will charge you full price for your remaining books whereas most shops, not to mention other internet sites would have them reduced. I wouldn't join a book club but it's up to you, depends how much you want those books for 6p!!
I think companies that send editor's choice is so infuriating, just a way to make money but making unhappy customers!!
Some cheapish websites I've ordered books from recently-
https://www.richardandjudybookclub.co.uk - 6 summer read books £19.99, free postage and free book too
https://www.play.com - slightly cheaper than some other sites, free p&p
https://www.thebookpeople.co.uk - very cheap selected books
I like the summer time...lots of reading!0
