I'm looking to back-up my mac and was planning on getting
LaCie 250GB 7200rpm USB2 Firewire Extreme II 8MB with cables
I've had a look through price comparisons sites and dabs seems to be the cheapest at £125.
Does anyone know of anywhere cheaper, or promo codes- or any experience of this product (don't ask much, so i?)
cheers jelly

There is a ciao review here: http://www.ciao.co.uk/Reviews/LaCie_d2_Hard_Drive_Extreme_with_Triple_Interface_250_GB__6371560"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

Products from Lacie are generally ok, I would imagine this will be similar. Nothing outstanding, just works.
Try
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/97011
This would be £125 including VAT and Standard Delivery
I dont know if you factored delivery into your DABS number.
DABS do have a much better reputation for CS than Ebuyer, but personally I have never had a serious problem with them (some very minor, but they were fixed quickly).0 -
You should be able to get 250Gb for under £100 ... I think even PC world had one AT £79.99 the other week. I have had problems with LaCie in the past, I could have been unlucky but they showed little interest in trying to help me. A colleague in work has the LaCie 250 and he thinks it is the greatest thing since sliced HP sauce.
[Edit] here is the one I was thinking off although the price might be collect@store (but then you might be able to get it today)
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Try this site ....

How important is the size of the cache? Consider two Seagate models, as follows:-
Seagate 250gb USB2 7200 8 MB cache £70 at dabs.com
Seagate 250gb USB2 7200 16 MB cache £99 at savastore.
Is it worth looking for one with a 16 MB cache?0 -
I would imagine cache size is irrelavant if you are using the drive as a backup device.
Otherwise I would imagine it would make some difference but being 29quid cheaper I personally would go for the 8MB model.
See the overclockers.co.uk forums on hard disks, they have a few people in there who "know" things!!
