Oh which one was that? (I am soooo nosey) :D

It's a Stewart Parvin 'Walk the line'. Really lovely dress which would have cost £2000 originally. I bought it on ebay but it didn't fit / suit me and haven't had any luck selling the thing. It's taking up so much room too I'm thinking of just shifting it for any amount to get it out of the way!

What sort of starting price did you put, I know a lot of people only look at sub £50 starting price, however seen the bidding go to £300-£400 on a 'nice' dress even with that starting bid. I don't tend to even 'watch' dresses with a reserve and starting bid of 99p cos that annoys the heck out of me, (start with the price you will accept, don't make me guess :rotfl:)
ETA, was it this one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Stewart-Parvin-Walk-the-Line-Wedding-Dress---Sz-10%2F12_W0QQitemZ250519921027QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxq20091026?IMSfp=TL091026194005r6951

Nice bit of detective work there frannyann!! I paid almost £400 for it so was reluctant to not get at least half my money back but I think it was the reserve that put people off. Maybe I should try a starting price of £50. At least I'll have a little money to put towards some shoes then!

Just a suggestion, but I wouldn't have looked twice at that, in fact I may have even seen it at the time :o Needs loads of pictures, preferrably someone wearing it too. Its soo hard to 'see' the dress just hanging there. I skipped a lot of dresses because of that. Plus put measurements on, I know I am a 34B (oh okay A cup) so putting a bra size it would approx fit will really help it sell.

ETA Sorry I can see you did put bust in, apology! Put a photo of the 'faults' too, if people can see them and see they are minor the bids will go higher

I did manage to do the dress up (just) but because of my bust size it looked OTT on me (almost like something from the tackyweddings website!). I suppose I could put some photos on, as I know what you mean about not being able to picture the dress when it's just hanging there, but I might attract the wrong kind of buyer if you know what I mean!
I tried finding a picture of the dress on a model so I could use that, but no luck :(

You got a flat chested mate?? I have seen dresses on 'skinnier' model with that explained underneath, and I could at least 'see' the dress better!

  • See me personally, looking at the dresses on ebay, I HATE the ones where the dresses are hanging up on a hanger. I don't know what the style is like so would prefer to see it on a model or person. Why not try doing that and see what happens?

I agree with this. Unless I actually knew what the dress looked like on, and I was looking for that specific one, I wouldn't look at one on a hanger as you've no idea what it actually looks like.

Yumyums, You need to put a clear picture of the tears you mention in the description, that WILL put buyers off and explains the very low bids. I wouldn't have bidded mainly because the tears could be totally unfixable making the dress unwearable but I couldn't raise a SND because you mention tears in the write up.

Agree with posters above; would never bid on something if I couldn't see the damage and lying limp on a hanger doesn't give any clue of what it looks like on - even nicking the designer's own pics in preferable to sticking it on a hanger; but the best idea is to get a mate to model it for you.
