MACBOOK PROBLEMS - Apple known issue, my rights?

I have recently have had problems with 2yr old Apple MacBook. The corners of the keypad area have worn away and snapped off due to the bumpers on the screen. To my frustration I searched on how much it would cost to replace the keyboard, after searching through the official Apple.com discussion board it was evident this was a common problem and something Apple are fully aware of.

A majority of the customers (in the USA) had their keyboards replaced FREE of charge by Apple who admitted to the design fault (even if the warranty had ran out like myself). However, other users said Apple had stopped this service.

I am going to the StormFront (Apple retail) store today to discuss this issue and obviously haggle a replacement. But if the worst comes to the worse and they point blank refuse this offer where do I legally stand?

All of your input would be gratefully received. And I shall keep you all up-to-date :)

THANK YOU!

You could try invoking the sale of goods act. Did you buy it from StormFront?

  • The dreaded "MacBook Crack" is a well known issue. I've had mine fixed twice due to the front right edge of the keyboard area being broken, once under warranty once out of warranty.

If you get no-where with the Apple retail store contact apple directly and they should fix it for you no problems.

My son had this and its the magnets in the top of the lid that cause some of the cracking, he took it to the local Apple Store and the parts where replaced for free.

They should replace it no problem. This happened to my dad. It would be wise for you to make an appointment, and at the same time ask if they have the part in stock. Leave it there and come back in an hour or two...
