Abandonement of Holiday due to Loss of Passport

We had actually got out to Acapulco, got through the Airport with our passports and I must have dropped them on the coach taking us to our Cruise Ship. They were never found so ultimately stolen as I know I had them when getting on the coach. We were led to believe from the British Consulate that we would be able to rejoin the ship at Costa Rica in a couple of days time once we had been to Mexico to sort out passports. We were only able to get Temporary Passports that would last for 5 days and only get us back to UK. We had no alternative but to book flights to get us home... Still our luggage did the Cruise and we had to pick them up from Gatwick 2 weeks later
