I don't know what my dad's done to his laptop but his task bar where the start icon is is twice the size it should be and I can't get it to be smaller again! Also his laptop is generally slow but all he does is check his email and facebook.. he seems to have downloaded a couple of random things but nothing big/major (not that I'm an expert but it's not like he plays games or anything on it). Anything I can do? I'm checking for viruses now..

Hi,
hover cursor over bar until you get a two headed arrow, left click, then pull down.0 -
That's not working, it's not letting me make it any smaller or bigger.. he has tons of icons by the clock on the right, do you think that's why it won't work? :S0

Can you take a screenshot, there could be another reason why it's happening.

Hi,
right click on task bar and make sure that it isn't locked, if it is, untick 'lock taskbar' and try arrow thing again.
Are you xp or vista?0 -

Doesn't sound like it's locked, as the arrow wouldn't appear.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Actually I just thought of something what this may be. You can't resize a windows taskbar if the quicklaunch bar is directly underneath it.
A suggestion that could be tried
Right click task bar - tools bars - untick quick launch
Try to resize again
If it works, right click task bar - tick quick launch.
I think it's probably thatOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them
