On board graphics & sound not working

Hi

I've got a HP Paviliion 440.UK model with on-board graphics and sound. I decided to add a Radeon graphics card so I could run 2 monitors. Now the on-board graphics and sound no longer work. I can't see any devices showing as in conflict in the device manager and Im a bit lost

At the moment Im running both monitors using the DVI and VGA ports on the Radeon graphics card but ideally, Id like to connect the sound back up without having to put in a PCI sound card as well.

Any ideas?

i presume you uninstalled the drivers for the on board graphics before you installed the new one. this would almost certainly cause conflict.? If you didnt then take the new graphics card out and uninstall the old drivers, reboot and check the bios to disable the on board graphics too
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!

Running on-board devices such as you mentioned is a drain on resources.

Boot to bios, disable on-board sound if you wish to use a card and disable the on-board graphics chip if you wish to use the graphics card.

If you prefer to use on-board devices enable them in bios turn machine off, remove plug from socket and remove cards.

Personally I use graphic and sound card, I don't like on-board devices.

I don't think you can run two monitors from on-board and graphic card.

You need a card that will allow you to run two monitors.

Thanks guys, for £10 I guess I could get a sound card and I'll disable the on-board devices. Do I still need to uninstall the drivers?

Strange, not really sure why you lost on-board sound just by adding a GPU.

All I can suggest is go into BIOS and look for onboard sound and onboard graphics. Are these set at enable or disable?

You need to uninstall all drivers that you no longer use.

They are set to enable, but I've ordered a PCI soundcard, hopefully, that should free up some more resources for other things. Didnt realise on board was so draining :)

Onboard sound isn't like it used to be, comfluters are getting more powerful so the drain on resources becomes slightly less than what it did previously.

Onboard graphics is a different story, can be quite a hog if you are loading lots of textures into RAM.

Something still aint right though, if onboard sound is enabled and you have lost all you sound items in device manager then maybe your motherboard has a fault.

Only thing i can suggest now is disable it in BIOS and save the changes, boot up as normal then go back into BIOS and re-enable it. Save and exit.
