Hijackthis Log-XP

Hi

Just wondering if somebody could have a quick look through this log for me and see if there is anything that needs removing.

The computer is running XP Pro, and has plenty of hard drive space but runs slowly, freezes and sometimes if the computer is restarted, fails to load, just a blank screen appears and it takes a few goes at turning on and off to get it to load again.

I have run all the usual programs but it does not appear to have helped much and it makes using the computer annoying to say the least.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

is there some reason you are still using Internet Explorer 6 ??? (do not update it yet)

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop. (if you have run it already then just post the log file)
    • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
    • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
    • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
    • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
      • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Then click Finish.
    • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
    • On the Scanner tab:
      • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
      • Then click on the Scan button.
    • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
    • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
    • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
    • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
    • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
    • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
    • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

    Hi Browntoa

    Thanks for replying so quickly.

It's my girlfriends computer and I suppose she does not really like change so she left things as they were, I don't use the computer much, I have a laptop.

I have removed the things you suggested and will now run Malwarebytes and post the log when done and let you have a look.

    Thanks again

    Hi

The ram is showing as 2.20GHZ, 480 MB of ram, which is less than I thought.

Would it be ok to update Internet Explorer then?

before you do, re-run HJT and if this

    R3 - URLSearchHook: myapp Toolbar - {376bda02-9407-4f88-b514-fddb19787779} - C:\Program Files\myapp\tbmya1.dll

still appears, tick to remove it. It may also point to the hosts file being corrupted....download HostsXpert and restore the hosts file. Then look at updating IE.

Also, go into the BIOS and change the graphics RAM down as low as it'll go (without disabling it completely)...every little bit of RAM you can use will help.

Oh, and go into Spybot and disable Tea Timer (under Resident)....can cause slow running issues :)
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

You definitely need more RAM. 1gig would be a HUGH increase in speed

Where is the cheapest place to buy more ram.

I have done a check and I have two slots that can each take 1gb of ram, so I may as well do them both.

Thanks for all the help so far.
