Platinum Amex Card -Combined annual income

Hi,

I am considering applying for the above mentioned card because i dont have credit card and as i never have a problem paying off anything and should always be able to afford to repay in full, figured i should go for a cashback card.
My income is 28K so just under the 30K limit to get the card based on my income alone (although with offshore bonus i would surpass it but this isnt a fixed income) but i was wondering if the combined income has to be from an actual spouse or whether it can be just from a partner. My girlfriend has been living with me for 3 years so i should be ok with that i imagine?

I'm in the same situation as you (roughly the same salary), and I applied for the Amex last week. My OH and I live together (ie nothing officially more in the eyes of the law) and I was accepted, having entered both salary details in.

So, in short: yes, you'll be fine!
  • I have increased my salary slightly in the past to ensure my application went through so if you say you earn £30k you should just about be OK on your application

This fact could prove more of a problem than the income issue when applying to Amex. Have you ever had a credit card or other credit accounts ?
  • i actually had a regular amex card for my former employee so i have had one, just not a personal one before.
do you actually think this could be a problem ?

It shouldn''t be a problem. Amex cashback credit card was my first credit card, only ever had an overdraft and a contract phone at the time.

I think if your household income is less than 30K it will come back as an auto decline. Might just have to round your income up to the nearest 10K, I'm sure you wont be the first to do that
