Washing machine noise problems

Can anyone help me please? I have an Indesit WIL 133 washing machine bought in July 2005.
These past 2 weeks or so its gotten stupidly loud when spinning, to the point its like an aeroplane taking off! I knew this was bad, but DD and I have both had the winter vomiting bug so I've had it on non-stop for about a week trying to deal with all the laundry.
Last week it took to leaving rust marks on the washing, not just heavy loads (like towels) but also on lighter-weight stuff like clothing put in on a daily wash.
Today it "took off" again, there was banging like something being flung about (that only started today), an even louder sudden bang and it started grinding then I switched it off as I didn't like the sound of it. I've pulled it out, taken the back & top off it. There was a pool, all be it a small one, of rusty water underneath, a fine black powder and nothing else as far as I can see amiss. Spinning it makes the drum move backwards and forwards about an inch. I've checked the weighting the best I can and that all seems fine.
Has anyone any idea what it can be and how I can fix it? Or do I have to reside myself to trying to buy a new one? (I won't buy second hand household appliances or get freebies - just a health & safety precaution I take, with second hand stuff you never know the history of it!)

Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

Hi
Sounds dead or about to be very soon.
I wouldn't bother repairing and Indesit of that age.
I would invest in something German, Miele would be the best and longest lasting if not Siemens, then Bosch. You could also try to search for ISE washing machines that are just supplied I think by independent service agents.
Good luck.

Sounds like the bearing has gone, your probably looking at about £100-£120 to get an engineer to fix it. Or if you know someone who is handy with tools then you can buy a bearing and seal kit and get them to fit it. This is a very involved job and taking the drum assembly out of the machine and apart is virtually always necessary.
This link shows what to look for:

These 2 links give you an idea of the cost of parts, but be careful if you decide to go the DIY route and check the bearing numbers before you buy if possible:

I did my washing machine bearings about a month ago....about £28 for the parts. Had to dismantle whole machine...take plenty of photos and make copious notes. Took about twenty minutes to drive out inner bearing with a 4lb lump hammer. About three days from start to finish with components all over the place. Took longer than a repairman as I had no access to a full manual for this particular machine just a generic one about twenty years old. Very satisfying once finished. If you are going to scrap the existing machine, why not have a go. Just dont buy the replacement parts until you are sure you are able to fully dismantle, especially extracting the bearings.0

Bearings - worked for hotpoint as a service engineer for a few years. Not only bearings but the shaft that runs through it will need to be changed. Could do it in an hour back then. Also some would go onto fail as the place the bearing is driven into cannot be changed and may pass water again - although this is not common. I would bin it and get a cheap hotpoint - £2000

And be back in the same situation in 18 months!
£200 is not enough to spend on a washing machine - manufacturers make far too many compromises on quality at this price point.0 -
If the drum is moving alot,it may be the 'Spyder' that is fixed to the drum, over time mine started cracking and finally broke 2 of the legs of the spyder.Mine was really banging loudley, thought it was the bearing but when I took it apart found it was a lost cause.(There was about 1 cm play at the circumferance of the drum)0

Through bitter experience don't bother wacking out to get it repaired - bin it, and go with a new one. Every time I have repaired a machine, something else goes wrong with it within weeks.
If you feel up to d-i-y and have the time then give that a go, but don't bother paying out for service repair.0
