Central locking

Could anyone advise me approx how much I would be looking to pay to get my central locking replaced. I have an 'S' Reg VW Polo, using local garage but parts will have to come from VW itself.

Thanks in advance.

    What is wrong with it?

What did the local garage tell you needed doing and what did they quote you?

Why do the parts have to come from VW themselves? Doesn't seem viable for a 12yr old car in cost/worth terms.

Scrap yards are far and away the best option for parts with older cars.

One of my friends recently had problems with his passats central locking (I'd imagine it would be a similar system) and I think it was a relativly simple fix - that said, I cant remember what it was....

For about 6 mths I've only been able to open it from the passenger side and lock it from the drivers side. I locked it the other day and couldn't open it again. I called my breakdown insurance and a 'young' lad came and spent 1.5 hrs trying to get in - eventually he gave up and said there would be no charge for callout - too right there wouldn't be!
Anyway, I contacted my local garage the next day and he opened it up in about 10 mins. He said to book it in so that he could have a proper look and suggested that one of the modules may have gone and he would have to get the parts from VW.

If you are now able to open, close and lock all the doors in some way I would do nothing and accept the minor inconvenience in the spirit of moneysaving.
