Hello all

Just wanted to say hi. Sorry I havent been on much lately and I havent contributed to anything but we're moving in a few days. Everything has come down from the loft, there are bags and boxes and rubbish everywhere and the whole house is in total chaos. The landing is so full of junk its like picking your way through an obstacle course. We have a skip outside but OH won't throw away a lot of the old junk; he's driving me mad. Cant understand why we need four computer cases for instance! There are so many things I havent done arranged (havent cancelled tv, electricity, gas or phone, havent sent out any change of addresses, havent informed water board or electricity for next house or to cancel this, havent even hired a van yet and its Monday we're going. Havent even received a completion statement from the solicitor and we have to pay some money towards the house.) I am very irritable and snappy on the outside and feel total hysteria on the inside. Cant relax because there's nowhere in the house that is peaceful and orderly. Have been watching the world cup and neglecting packing. Sorted through boxes and boxes of kids drawings and paintings and schoolwork. cant believe their incredible output and didnt want to throw any of it away. In the end, didnt throw away much of their stuff. Got a big lump in my throat. DD has gone to Holland and then Thailand for a month so all round its an anxious summer for me. Will try to come back after we move and be more useful and helpful but for now I'm a quivering wreck with no useful advice for everyone but I'd like to wish you all well, take care and good luck to us all with paying off our debts. Love Tes xxx

    Hi Tes

Just wanted to wish you all the best for your move - I've been following your threads and really admire you for the decisions you've taken :T (for the record, I support your decision to move house - against the better judgement of many, I know, but I can see where you are coming from and I would do the same!! ;)). I can't offer you any practical advice, because I haven't been in the position of selling a house (although we hope to sell in the next 6 months, once we get round to putting our place on the market! :o:p), but I wanted to send positive vibes:grouphug: and say that I hope all goes well for you over the next week or so.:D

Thank you Piglet. I expect you'll find too that its the most stressful time of your life once you put your house on the market.

  • Apart from the bit where you've a daughter who's travelling over the summer, your post mirrors my own situation exactly. We WILL get there, though. I think my turning point will come when I admit to myself that Peter Crouch and Wayne Rooney aren't going to come round and cancel the utilities or do my packing for me :)

For what it's worth, you're not alone :)

I know I will...I'm absolutely dreading it :o (which, deep down, I suspect is why I am putting off putting the house on the market!!).

I am in a "stupid" situation - I know that it will be stressful - we tried to sell 3½ years ago...sold 4(!!!!) times and each time it fell through for different reasons (buyer pulled out after getting quote for proposed building work, buyer's buyer dropped out and chain broke, buyer (self-employed) couldn't secure mortgage, etc, etc ). Then, the work situation picked up and we decided to stay put for a while. However, when we do sell, we will be in the very enviable position of having no mortgage (complicated, but have owned second house - which we are wanting to move into - for the last 3 years, but it was bought at rock bottom price because of condition and we have struggled to pay huge mortgage for the last 3 years because we know it will pay off in the end!). Due to good fortune and buying at the right time in London :p, our current house has increased in value enough to pay off all mortgages and own second house outright, clear our current debts and pay a decent sum towards renovation of new house. We will have to save to do cosmetic work on new house, but we can obviously live with that !! For some reason, though (and I suspect it is because I dread hordes of people traipsing through my house  - remembering last time!!), I cannot get my brain into gear and sort things out to get the place on the market.

Our aim is to clear out the majority of clutter and get the place ready for sale by the end of August. Watch this space!! _pale_

P.S. This is not meant to be a boastful thread, so apologies if it seems that way. The rise in house prices is purely due to buying in a less than desirable area in 1997, which has since rocketed, and now moving 120+ miles out of London to where property is much cheaper.

Good luck with your move pounds and pensive. Yes we will get through it. When is your big day? Piglet, you sound as if you have mixed luck when it comes to buying and selling houses. I can understand your dread and the thing about selling is that you make your house the best its ever been, clutter free and beautiful and then you have to move out! We have mainly bad luck but the house we are buying, although weve looked at property for sale for months we cannot see anything to rival it and seem to have got a bargain.

Have just realised that the above thread makes me seem really lazy as I can't get my bottom into gear... :o

In my defence, I'd like to state that I am the sole earner in the household at the moment (hubby is long-term sick, and owning 2nd house outright - all mortgage is on the one property we currently live in, due to the increase in equity - means we are not eligible for any benefits) and therefore I am working 10-12 hour days Monday to Friday, plus a second job at weekends (2 x 12hr shifts on Saturdays and Sundays). For the record, I have no problem with not qualifying for benefits - given the situation, I would be mad if I discovered that someone else in our position was eligible for benefits  (if it was anybody else other than me, I would also want to know why they couldn't sell the second house with no mortgage on it and support themselves on the proceeds of the sale...  ). However, it does mean that I don't have a lot of time to pack things up into boxes and hubby's illness means that he is not able to help as much as he would like (and I am pretty knackered most of the time! :p) - not to mention it completely b*ggers up my sleep pattern most of the time - which is probably why I am posting here at the moment!!!:rotfl:

    Anyway, enough excuses...;)

Was trying to paste photo from my pictures of our new grotty kitchen but it will not copy. Perhaps you should take it easy for a bit Piglet and do the work slowly. Once you get started though, its a lot easier.

You are totally right, Tes - the more clutter we clear out, the more attractive our house looks and the more I want to stay put! :rotfl:

Totally understand the "We have mainly bad luck but the house we are buying, although weve looked at property for sale for months we cannot see anything to rival it and seem to have got a bargain." (sorry - can't do proper quotes! :p) - we bought our "new" house because it was completely out of date and in need of drastic renovation (new electric, new gas, all the wood has worms, we have lead water pipes, we even have 3 separate instances of asbestos in the house!!) - however, we are assured by the estate agents that a £40,000-50,000 spend will increase the value of the house by somewhere in the region of £100,000-£150,000 so we are hanging on in there and hoping that its worth it...;)

(It is our dream family home, so we are talking about a long term investment here...!):o .

  • Our big day is supposed to be Monday too, but we haven't had this in writing yet and I'm wondering just how long a length of elastic our completion date is is on, since up until a couple of days ago it was supposed to be this Friday. Given our current state of disorganization, it's just as well that's not happening :) Then we stay with my sister for a week until our rented property is ready. Much as we love each other, me and her are usually an argument waiting to happen, so this could well be the reason for much of my procrastination.

What's worse though, is that my husband has been a removal man for the last fifteen years, and even with the help of a mate who's also in removals, is acheiving even less than I am (and I didn't think that was possible!). Having said that, if they could pick up a packing crate without picking up a crate of beer at the same time, they'd get a bit more done :)

Never mind. It WILL get sorted. I'm going to be dynamic. Tomorrow :)

Wow, thats a good profit. It sounds definitely worth it. Must be off to bed now as will fall asleep at work tomorrow otherwise. I overslept this morning as it is.
