Debenhams Store/Credit card Declined?

in Credit cards
I've been trying to build up my credit profile, so I applied for the Debenhams store/credit card. I am now retired, so on the application form it does ask you your status. So put down retired, I then check the form and then clicked to apply.
It kept coming up please enter your occupation? If I'm retired this was confusing, so in the box next to where I put retired, I also ticked my previous working occupation.
It just came back with 'sorry' I have opened an Argos account in November, that still isn't showing on my credit files. Also a full current account, got 2 actually, one with Abbey (Sandander who supply the debenhams card) the other Barclays.
I do have 7 searches in 2 months though, I have some credit history and on electoral roll
anyone applied for store/credit cards, it says on the website, they will score you to see if you qualify for either one card.
PS. Have looked everywhere on their site for a contact number on applications but the only number if you have a card with them.

7 searches in 2 months is a lot.
I think this may be a negative towards you if these are all credit searches.0 -
I tried to ring the customer services number, at first kept asking for my account no, so just tapped in the * button. It asked me to wait for an operator.
Got through to their call centre, think in India, tried to explain about the application and my status being retired. yet still asking me for my occupation! He said to just close the page down, might write to them in Leeds. Surely if you put your status down and it can be retired, homemaker, unemployed, it's daft to keep asking you your occupation? Has anyone applied recently?

Rickee, your Debenhams application will undoubtedly be declined even if the occupation thing gets fixed. 7 searches within 2 months is frowned upon and any lender you apply to will assume you are desperate for credit and decline outright.
It is best waiting until they drop off your credit file after one year. Continuing to apply for products will make your situation worse.
The maximum amount of searches, according to recommendations from people on this forum is 10 per year, equally spaced out during the year. Any more than this and you may very well have problems obtaining any further credit until they drop off your file. We’ve had to remove your signature. Cheers Elkey, there should be 5 searches, there are 2 duplicates. The thing about the occupation, there is something not right with the system.
If you put down your retired, it should let you submit it without keep highlighting the second occupation box. I will leave applications now, think i need to go in the SOS club, is that still available? It just gets you hooked that apply button:D0
