I'm very confused...

OK, so I know that the previous owner used British Gas and Southern Electrcity, what does this mean for me, do they cut me off straight away or do i have a grace period? I complete on Friday on a 1 bedroom flat.
Lifes problems wouldn't be called hurdles if there wasn't a way to get over them!

    Hey chill!!

They won't cut you off, they'll do their level best to find out who you are and they will keep on supplying. If they do not know who you are your bills will be at first directed to "the occupier" and they will keep on trying to contact you.

Presumably previous owners will have advised them that they are moving out, so they are no longer liable for gas/elec that you use.

Just contact them b4 or after you move in - either way no prob and they will talk you thru it all.

Check out that they are the cheapest providers for you as well. Most suppliers offer a better deal if you have both services from the same supplier - check it out on uswitch or something.

    Welcome to your new home!

    mm
  • take a metre reading for both gas and electric the moment you move into the house.
that way you can provide a proper reading for the companies and won't be liable for other people's usage.

i would also suggest that you speak to the companies and take both products with just one of them. if you are with southern electric then stay with them as they're cheaper than british gas at the moment.
