Unable to replace boiler easily

Our house has 2 boilers, 1 for the original bit of the house and 1 for the extension. the original house has a boiler which is v old and therefore qualifies for the scrappage scheme.
Brit Gas have been wanting to sell me a new boiler for ages, so I had one of their sales people/engineers out - however he was stumped, apparently there isn't enough gas coming to the property to allow the 2 boilers + a gas hob to run safely, so we'd have to have a new gas meter installed but even then that doesn't guarantee more gas as the pipes in the road may not be big enough. Then also the old boiler is sited on an inside wall and there is no space on an outside wall to site it either unless I want it on the wall in my sitting room. He said a non British gas engineer might fit me a new boiler - but he wouldn't gurantee it and we'd still have to apply for something along the lines of restricted status to site the new boiler in the alcove the old one came out of.

Anybody experienced anything like this? Any thoughts?
Cheers

Good afternoon: seek advice from independent RGIs recommended to you by a source you trust...they would be best placed to advise on your situation after conducting a site survey.
