Holiday in August

Hi, I have posted in the UK holidays section aswell as we are undecided as to whether to go abroad or stay in the UK (price and luxury dependant;)). We are a family of 4 with 2 young children and we would like to go to either France or Spain at the middle of August for either 7 or 10 nights. We are happy to book flights and accomodation seperately to keep the costs down but we are looking for a villa or apartment, not too commercialised and not too quiet (yes we are akward!). Any ideas, we did think of Centerparcs in France but can't find too many reviews on it and we have looked at baby friendly boltholes which is right up our street but has limited availability for our dates.

we are looking at France and a family of 4 (2 small children) and started looking at Eurocamp/Keycamps (there is a thread on these elsewhere on here). You can stay in a supertent or caravan seems fairly reasonable, we looked 31st July and for a supertent was circ £500 and Caravan £700 - they you got the tunnel / ferry (they seem to do discounts on the ferry) am looking at the sites and there appears to be one near Calais or loads further afield. Just started looking last night so thought id respond, we havent booked as need to investigate other sites in France.
Good luck0 -
my sister always uses canvas every year and has stayed in various places in france and italy and caravans and is very pleased with their prices and amenities.0

Unfortunately we want something more like a villa or luxury apartment. We already do one short break to a caravan which is fine for the children but not really what we see as a holiday for us. Camping is definately out of the running:eek:
Thanks for your responses though:D0 -
Eurocamp etc are good..we have been on plenty but depends how far you want to drive? Another option, which we have done for years and my sister has also started to do is to rent a villa from a reputable site and book your own flights to somehwer v reasonable like Spain (Costa Blanca or somewhere) My sis has given up on France eurocamp ( having had wall to wall bad weather the other year in the Vendee) and england (again, bad weather) and decided cheaper to go abroad cos you don't spend as much cos weather is hot and kids happy in pool and sea. You can spend an awful lot when weather is bad..and it is so nice to have the warmth and sun..tho you can't beat England when sunny!0

I don't mind if it isn't warm, we have been to France before and their weather seems to be quite similar to ours so I don't mind the lack of warmth (although a bit of sunshine would be great). We would have gone to Mexico or somewhere else further afield if the kids were a bit older but I knows they will drive us insane on a long flight:rolleyes:0

I owuld settle for France, or Spain then. Depends what sort of holiday you like...you are pretty well assurred of warm weather in Spain on the Costas but not so much in northern Spain. Javea, Denia, anywhere along there possibley. thing is with Spain the flights are quite cheap, loads of villas to rent and also flights are SHORT!0

we have been to javea every year for about 6 years and I never thought i'd be the type of person to go back to the same place but we love it. Lovely sandy beach with restaurants along the promenade all very reasonable and varying from pizzerias to fine dining (without the snobbery you sometimes get here) plus the port area with a pebbly beach and more restaurants/local shops and then the old town area with its lovely market and work-a-day spanish atmosphere. the only thing is the villas are often about a 5-10 minute drive from the front so might be a bit cut-off if you want your children to pal up with others (i don't know how old they are). there are some 2 and 3 bed apartments with pool on the front i think which you will find on one of the villas sites - holiday lets, holiday lettings, holiday-rentals or owners direct and also aspects of spain are handy as they will do odd length departures even in august - I'm not sure if they do apartments though. Just google javea villas and you will be inundated with choice which does, as the other poster said, keep the prices relatively low.0
