I'm a big Buddlia fan, as they're brilliant for Butterflies, but some people do consider them almost a weed.
This is the Red Valerian I mentioned earlier:-

it's one of my favs as it flowers for months right into winter and is the fav of the humming bird hawk moth. it does self seed, but that's no problam with me. More free plants (and they're easy to pull up if unwanted. )
You could get a bit arty and make something like these:

I grow mainly fruit, herbs and wildlife friendly plants and although it's still in progress with a lot of things needing to fill out a bit, it's absolutely buzzing with life in summer. Damsel flies, hover flies, butterflies, loads of different bees, ladybirds, lacewings, Humming bird moths. It makes me happy just wandering outside.
PS How's the ex phobia? Hope I haven't put you off too much with the last line above!
hmmm, i did just get a queasy feeling reading that, but hey - it's gotta be done! I will hold my breath and try not to look at them and gradually over time get nearer etc ..... i am determined dd2 will NOT follow me with phobias! !:D
Last year I did ok, but with there being less around over winter i have found the odd spider making me jump and harlequin ladybirds coming in the window frame freaked me a bit....... it's a work in progress!2009 - Attempting to grow my own Kitchen garden.....did it!!!
