Reclaiming delivery charges

All,

I ordered a blu-ray player from Dabs before Christmas, and so to ensure that I received it a few days before Christmas, I paid extra to have it delivered on the 22nd December with next business day delivery.

On the date of the expected delivery the local courier had loaded it into his van for delivery, but either due to bad weather or the cut-off time for the delivery drivers, the parcel was not attempted to be delivered.

For the next 7 days the parcel sat at the depot and was not loaded onto the van for delivery. I had made one attempt to contact the courier, but considering it was a premium rate number and I sat on hold for sometime, I figured I wasn't paying anymore extra to get this delivered, and I had no other way of contacting the courier, as they did not post a delivery card, so I could not do it online.

The parcel eventually turned up on Tuesday 29th December, 7 days later or 3 business days if you remove the holidays, however I advised the courier I was not signing for it and contacted the retailer that it was being returned unreceipted.

Having had several email exchanges with the retailer who refuses to use telephones, I received a refund from the retailer for the cost of the item minus the extra delivery cost.

The retailer says the delivery was late due to bad weather, as stated by the courier, however the day after the expected delivery the same courier was in my postcode area delivering as per usual.

Personally, I suspect that because of the volume and the inability of the courier to meet demand, mine and other parcels were left caged up until after Christmas,

Having paid £9 for NBD delivery and not getting even a reasonable service, the day after next, or even the day after that, can anyone offer any advice or approach to reclaim the £9 from Dabs, after all they should be able to reclaim it back from the courier (btw that's HDNL) but are obviously not willing to do so, as it's my loss and not theirs.

I am still annoyed with being fobbed-off on bad weather for delivery issues, when I know the vans were running.

Regards,

John
