Look at buying something like Arden Grange for him
Google them and their site to see what goes into the food in detail. One of the cheapest places I've found it is vetuk.co.uk
But I also buy dog food so get free delivery... shop around - it works out very cheap when you don't buy it from pets at home
A 7.5kg bag lasts my 2 approx 2 months - give or take. It costs just under £24 so £12 a month or £6 a month per cat... as I say it might work out better from elsewhere depending on delivery costs etc

I have read all the reports I can find - I cannot say with any certainty that they are true, but on balance, I cannot find any reliable evidence they are not true - and it appears they certainly do testing on animals that is more than just taste testing.
As for the price, it is a case of a very good job done by retail psychologists, ad men, and branding consultants, on packaging, advertising, and selling a cheap food, whilst conning us into believeing it is something special.
The advertising message in IAMS commercials is that if you feed IAMS, your cat is not just a bog-standard cat, but something special - with the advertising strapline - 'I am not just a cat, I am an IAMS cat'... righto... just like the shampoo adverts, who tell everyone to buy their products 'Because you're worth it'.
The psychological message being given out here is that if you do not buy your cat IAMS, it is because he is nothing special, or you don't value him, likewise, if you do not buy that shampoo, it is because you do not value yourself!

Thank you to all who have replied regarding the IAMs issue. Did alittle digging myself and found some research that said in one test that strapped mice to a cage by their tails to bring on some muscle related ailment.
Have told my mum and we will not be buying anymore IAMs no matter if its on sale or not. Thank you all for alerting us to this, we have been conned into paying the high price because we thought it was decent food for our dog
Will be finding a substituteJust me, in my own little world

I also knew nothing of the Iams testing. Thanks for that. I only ever buy Wagg as I am a poor student, but won't even consider Iams now, cheap or not. How shocking!

I think there are far worse foods than Wagg - my last little dog made it to about 17 on Wagg, and although the meat content could be higher, it does not have added colours etc. You may want to add the odd sardine, cooked egg or meat scraps to it occasionally, to add a little extra nutrition.0 -
My boy loves WAGG! In fact, the cheaper the food, the happier he is..!!
He wont eat Bakers - it doesn't agree with him, and he won't consider anything with tripe in it...
Other than that, he's really not that fussy.
I tend to stock up on WAGG when it's on offer at Asda (especially if I can get damaged bags for £5!!) it sits in the shed until it is needed. Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved!
