aerial/ freeview problem

Hi everyone I wondered if anyone can come up with the best /cheapest option?

For background. I have sky dish outside and skyplus box in living room.

My son has come back home (boo!) and spends most of time in room at back of garage playing on x box watching dvd's. There is no aerial there and he just has a portable one on tv which isnt great as it shadows all the time.

I was thinking of either getting him a freeview box or similar. Is it best/easiest/cheapest to somehow run a cable from the sky dish and get a cheap sky box so he can watch it that way? or would it be best to get an independant aerial? I borrowed one of those gizmo's which sends the signal of what I am watching to his tv but it was just as bad as his poratable aerial really.

wondered if anyone can advise best route

You MAY have to upgrade your LNB depending on how many outputs it already has and how it's already cabled to your SkyPlus. You can't just split the cable to feed another box. How strong is your tv signal area and is the orientation of the room favourable to the transmitter? It may be just as easy to get an aerial just outside the window, maybe from Maplin, and rig it to a Freeview box. Another option - you could run a coax cable directly from the second output of the sky box. That would be the cheapest solution of all (probably).

If you have a Sky+ then you will almost certainly have a quad LNB with 4 outlets, 2 are used by your Sky+ Receiver, the other 2 are spares.

You just need a second hand Sky Receiver from a Car Boot Sale etc, ( about a fiver ) and a cable running from the LNB / Dish ( spare outlet ) to the receiver, your Son will then get all of the free channels that are available.
