cat's tail

My cat has come in this morning and his tail is just hanging trailing on the floor, can anyone tell me if he has done something serious?

    Yes - your vet.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

It sounds like it's been broken - so yes, get kitty to the vet asap, if for no other reason than to get any infection cleared up should he have been bitten.

It does sound serious - he could have been run over. My cat went missing for a few days and when she came in her tail was the same - she ended up having to have it amputated.

How is he otherwise? It was pretty obvious with mine that she was in pain.
  • Oh no I hope your cat is ok!

We had to have our cat's tail amputated 2 years ago - she learned an important lesson about not sleeping in car engines! - and it doesn't seem to have affected her at all, apart from looking like a rabbit :p Her tail was quite literally hanging off , but she didn't seem to be in any pain. Get to the vet as soon as you can!

He doesn't seem to be a lot of pain. He's just sleeping at the moment, but he looks really down in the dumps! I don't think he's been run over as neither of them seem to go out the front, they just stick to the back gardens. There's no blood or marks that i can see. His tail is just really droopy, kids off to school in a minute so will phone vet and get him seen to then.

I know this is dog, not cat but my dog recently came in with her long tail hanging straight down, wouldn't/couldn't wag it or move it in anyway, and if we lifted it she cried.
Vets xrayed her and saw no damage, they put it down to maybe falling on it or an impact of some kind, shes a big clumsy dog so we guessed a fall too.
A week of strong painkillers later she was back to normal, vet compared it to hurting our cocyx.
    Hope kitty is ok

This happened to my cat also after he was hit by a car. There may be internal damage that you cant see, he had nerve damage to his bladder and had his tail amputated. Hope your kitty is ok!!

Just incase you're worrying about it now... they cope very well with an amputated tail! Charlie lived a happy life until he died several years later from an unrelated illness. Didnt want to scare you

Let us know how the vet trip goes
