If, like me, you have an all-electric home, and an economy7 meter, then why not make the most of the cheaper night-rate?.

Does your emmersion heater have an E7 timer already?, if so, turn it on. It will take the same time to heat your water, but at about 1/3 the cost (don't forget to make sure your emmersion tank is well-lagged).

Does your washing machine or tumble-dryer have a countdown timer on it?, if it does, then before you go to bed put in your washing, set the program, set the 'delay start' to switch the machine on after midnight, then in the morning you can simpley remove your freshly-down washing knowing that you have just saved yourself 60% of the cost of electricity that it would have cost you to wash during the day.

The same principle can apply to dishwashers too.

If you have a lot of mobile phones and portable gadgets the require charging, why not invest in a timer to plug into a wall socket, you can then plug an extension soucket into this, and load it up with all the various mains adapters for your gadgets. With the timer set to come-on between midnight and 7 a.m., you can charge them all at little cost to your pocket.

If you live alone, then when you boil the kettle to make a cup of tea, put the surplus water into a thermos. This saves you wasting energy re-boiling the kettle later on.
