European city break-where's good value??

hi,

Im asking for a bit of help here. I have a friend coming over from the staes for the month of July & the beginning of August. I would like to show him a good time while he is here, as him and his family showed me when i was over there several years ago. I would like to show him somewhere else in Europe as it would be a great experience, however money is on a budget! Ryanair fly from prestwick to several european cities cheaply, i am wandering when u factor in all the other stuff(connections, hotels, nightlife, food etc) what city is the cheapest to go to for a weekend on ryanair from prestwick. Its more about value for money. If we fly him to a different country it will look like we have spent alot, something i want him to think but something i dont want to do. We are both 21, and looking to party, if this helps. Also more details would be great, like what site to book the hotel from in the city you suggest, what we should do here, cheap things we can do and what things i can book cheaper in advance etc.

Thanks all

Greatly appreciated

    Amsterdam, Barcelona,??
The choice is endless really but flight prices will be at their highest in July and August so getting a real cheapie might be difficult.
Have you thought of going to another British city like Liverpool?

Eastern Europe still has the best bargains, and you'll be treated fantastically as they're still not quite used to tourists (!), but I don't know how easily you'll get a flight from Prestwick.

Worth checking Riga, Tallinn, Budapest and even Vilnius. Warsaw has plenty to see and do but isn't what one would necessarily call pretty, although the completely restored Old Town is astonishing. It is, however, fascinating if you want to see what an Eastern Bloc city looked like.

  • Amsterdam for sure, the variety of activities is second to none- where else can you start the day with a canal boat tour, hop off at a museum for some fine art, pop to Anne Franks house, go for mayo and chips for dinner, yummy. Have a look at the Artis Zoo, its great!!!!Buy some tulips/clogs (obligatory) from the worlds only floating flower market.Go to the sex / torture/ marijuana museum. The beer in the Dam is well nice, they serve it with a bit of a head, be warned! Then have tea, have a space cake for afterwards, take him for a bit of window shopping, Oh my god, you can do so much in a day!!! The Americans seem to love Amsterdam, I go a few times a year and the streets are always packed with Americans. If you like to party, in more ways than one, you can have your cake and eat it in the Dam.
As for hotels, I usually just type in Amsterdam hotels, then find a hotel, then check the prices to book direct with the hotel. Givent he timescales, if you're after something city centre and reasnobly priced, your best bet might be a hostel, think the Bulldog Cafe have a hostel in the red light district, there's a few in the red light district. Good luck wherever you end up, have fun, but be careful!!
RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

I went to Warsaw in March and although it is not as nice to look at as, for example, Prague or Budapest, it is still a very nice place - as steve_cov says, the restored Old Town is quite something. Eating and drinking there is unbelievably cheap and the beer is bloody lovely.

....Interesting! Flight from prestwick to amsterdam, krakow and warsaw in July are £100ish...which is more than i wanted to spend but then again i guess everywhere is expensive at the end of July.

Trying a new destination next spring - Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. We will make it our base but plan to make day-trips to other parts of the country. Have already been to Prague and Krakow and I just like the feel of these middle/central European cities. Easyjet and WizzAir both fly to Ljubljana, as well as Adria, the national airline
