Hit kerb, now traction and abs light stay on vectra 53 plate

Hi.

Hit a kerb less than 10 mph today with the rear off side wheel of my car tonight. Vectra 53 plate. Thought nothing of it at the time as it was so light a knock.

Anyway went to go out in it again afterwards and the first corner I came to the back end flew way out. When I looked at the dash the abs and traction control light are constantly lit and the back end seems to be trying to steer out by itself (hope that makes sense)

Any ideas what it could be?

Could be wheel alignment thats caused the lights to come. Get it checked professionally soon.

I initially thought that but what about the lights constanly on and the terrible cornering?

More than likely your ABS/Speed sensor. Could need a new one or the existing one has just become disconnected.

If you take the front wheels off you will see an electrical wire that leads to a small component on the other side of the brake disc. DIY job and part only costs about £10-£15.

As stated take the car to a garage to get it checked out.

Well you've clearly done some damage so get it inspected asap, in fact I'd be inclined to stop driving it until it's looked at.

    Thanks for the replies.

I have stopped driving it. I'm a cabbie and wouldnt put other people in danger. I also will be taking it to a garage even if it is only a diy job for exactly this reason. Was just after a heads up on what it could be.

Think the concensus is sensor and or tracking/alignment
  • quite possibly bent one of the suspension arms/links, a lad at work has done the same thing and his wheel is no longer in line with the car

First thing I done was to look at the wheel. It seems fine, not on an angle or out of line, no obvious damage but I know it [STRIKE]will have[/STRIKE] must have done something behind it.

If you want a diy approch you could jack the car up then check the wheel hasn't got any play. Then remove the wheel to check just in case for damage around the axle/suspension/tracking. You can also check and clean the abs sensor. A DMM may be able show you if the sensor is working or not etc.

Terrible cornering is likely to be because of the abs/tracktion control fault.

Thanks Ice and evryone else but as I use the car as a taxi I would prefer to have a garage fix it rather than try and skimp and DIY it.

Was just looking for a heads up as to what it may be so I can prepare myself as to costs??
