Missing online bank transfer

Hi everyone!
I'm currently in a tug of war with both Barclays and HSBC in regards to a missing online bank transfer.
My girlfriend made a transfer to my Barclays account from her HSBC account at the start of December but it never materialised in my account.
After several letters and phone calls both parties are stating it's the others problem.
HSBC have sent letters claiming the money went out of my GF's account which it did and have stated that I need to take it up with Barclays. Barclays are saying there's no record of the transfer and have pushed me back to HSBC.
I'm currently at a loss as we've both written to our respective banks claiming we want this resolved within 7 days or we're moving accounts to another bank. We've heard nothing back?
I got in touch with the Financial Ombudsmen but haven't heard from them either.
Can anyone shed any light on this and give me some advice on how to resolve it?
Thanks in advance
Richard

You need to get HSBC to do a forward trace for the payment. They can confim the sort code and account number it was sent to and they can get confirmation that it arrived there.
YOu can also get Barclays to do a missing payment enquiry, they will need to know the sort code and the account number it was sent to, any reference, the sort code and account number it was sent from and the exact amount and the date sent. With all of that information they can check to see if they if they have received the monies and where it went to.
The ombudsman won't get involved until you've gone through the banks complaints procedure so you need to register a formal complaint with both to get the ball rolling and they go through their process. A recorded delivery letter with every detail of the problem making clear it is a formal complaint.
ps I don't think the threat of you moving to another bank will make any difference but a formal complaint should get some action.0
