    does the cold kill slugs?
Well it won't kill all of them, but with any luck numbers will be down a bit.

:D as long as I have a reduced slug population I will not be complaining about the still falling snow and the -5C outside.

-5C is positively tropical. I measured -12C inside my protection frame two nights ago, so Lord knows what it was in the open garden!

Down the road a few miles, they reported -19C and, as that village is in the bottom of the valley, I can believe it. On that afternoon, we were walking near the river, much of which was frozen, and at around 3:30pm, as soon as the area began to lose the sun, the mist just rolled out across the fields reaching around head height in a matter of minutes. With the trees poking through, and the hoar frost still clinging to all the dead vegetation, it made a spooky scene.

Under the snow is warmer than above it; not that I'm planning to go there just yet!;)
