Questions to ask hotel

Hi all,

Looking to have a civil ceremony and reception all in one place. Booked to see wedding co-ordinators at a number of venues over the next few weeks but wanted advice about what questions we should ask??

Also having spoke to the venues we are already finiding that some are already booked for the Saturday we are hoping for but have the sunday free and having spoken to the district registrar they also have a number of weddings already booked both on the saturday and sunday but at present could fit us in. Now I'm concerend about what happens if when we visit the venue and finally make a decision about which one, the registrar is then booked up..... It's madness, only got engaged new years eve and finding it all very stressfull already!!!

I am assuming you are looking a 'high' season then? As you probably have guessed some of us book over a year in advance even for 'non high' season dates!! Have you considered the friday? The registrar will be cheaper and often you find discounts are more available too. In my area the venue books the registrar so not sure which is better, but it sound like you may be better booking the reg and then deciding on a venue to fit?

In my experience the venue will 'pencil you in' for a certain length of time (my venue was 2 weeks) whilst you decide, and enquire with registrar etc. :)

Thats what mine did - we are having church wedding and then onto venue.....went to venue, had a choice of two dates in the month/year we wanted so then we got pencilled in for 2 weeks so we could check with church etc etc and then book definitely before the 2 weeks was up.
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
  • We are booking more that a year in advance, but it is the Spring back holiday weekend in May. As we are both teachers the Friday would be out as we are both working, and we work in different LEA's so not all of our holiday dates match up either!! We were thinking that the Sunday wouldnt be that bad as most people wouldnt be working the Bank Holiday anyway. (It also means that we dont need miniumum numbers).

We have decided to go for a meal there tonight and see if they will let us have a look at the venue at the same time.... fingers crossed

I see, we are both nurses so friday was good for us! I thought you were looking at this summer, hence the one year comment! I can imagine that spring bank holiday would be very popular!! I am with others then, get your date 'pencilled' in and go from there! Good luck!

ETA, most places we looked at the Sunday before Bank holiday monday, is often charged same as a saturday, but I would still push for a discount anyway :D

  • Good news, after lots of persuasion they have agreed to pencil us in until our formal meeting on the 24th, also avised us on best times for registrar and gave us a quick look around some of the facilities. Feeling much happier and a lot less stressed now. Thanks all
