I went there for my last holiday in July 2007 and I really enjoyed it although it rained every day. I really liked Keswick, a very pretty town and the Lakes where beautiful
The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -
We went in May and stayed in a cottage up on the Kirkstone Pass ,above windermere. We had a gret time and the higlights were Keswick, lovelly place including the Cumberland Pencil museum (its actually really good:D) and James Bond Museum.
Went on a boat trip on Ullswater and hired a boat on Windermere really good fun, you can also go to Beatrix Potter world at Bowness-on-windermere.....The scenery is Breath taking and people are cool too...
Its just pot luck if you get the good weather;) Go for a week, its a pleasure to drive anywhere in the Lakes0 -
Yes - loads - can go for ages.We all evolve - get on with it0

The Lakes are fantastic, check out the cumbria tourist website, I think it is golakes.com
Loads to do, you can make it as cheap or as expensive as you like. From camping and caravans to posh hotels, self catering or eating out - cafes, restaurants and gourmet pubs.
Relax on a boat on a lake or stride up Catbells.
The list really is endless.
I am a bit biased as you might guess.Jane 21120 -
I live on the outskirts of the Lake District so have spent a lifetime in and around the place and can see the scenery from my home. Keswick is a great place with plenty to see and do (I hear the lake is partially frozen at the moment too!), Ambleside is very pretty, Windermere also, which is probably the busiest place to go, Grasmere is very small but lovely and has Dove cottage where Wordsworth lived for a time. Wastwater and Honister pass are very dramatic and atmospheric (2 of my favourites) then there is Ullswater and the steamers.....I could go on, but however long you go for will not be long enough. Enjoy!0

Stayed in a haven camp near Grange over sands (south lakes) last June. Apart from some minor inconveniences with regard to builders onsite, the holiday was outstanding. We stayed for a whole week (6 of us) and explored the surrounding areas. Definitely take a trip to Dalton in Furness to visit South Lakes Wildlife Animal Park if you can, I've been a few times now and its just fab, also went to Bowness, mountain climbing in a car (satnav took us shortest route lol), randomly found places to park along riversides and had picnics, in fact it was such a relaxing break (bar the builders) that we have booked to go again this year too!!! Highly recommended (although I would recommend that you stock up on food before you go, supermarkets are few and far between if you are self catering).Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)0 -
I can second (or third??) Keswick. Its a lovely town and a lot less touristy than Windermere.
We have been the last couple of years, first to Portinscale to a lovely B&B: http://www.mountkeswick.co.uk/ which was fantastic.
Last year we stayed in Keswick itself at this place: ttp://www.thecartwheel.co.uk/ nice four poster bed room (if a little on the small side) but made to feel so welcome and lots of advice about where to go etc.
We havent done much walking before, mainly just on the flat, but we decided to go up Cat Bells. It nearly killed me, but we got to the top. A walk that was so worth it!
Are you going to be doing any walking or just sightseeing?Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!0 -
BLUis
So you were happy with the cartwheel?
I`m looking for somewhere in Keswick for about three nights in July.
Was there any car parking and did you have any trouble getting parked?0 -
The Cartwheel was lovely. Food was fantastic!! Every day there was cake in the lounge if you wanted any when you go back from walking.
The owners are really nice too, very knowledgable about the area and where to walk and where to eat out etc.
The parking was on the road, which wasnt too bad when we went (right at the beginning of the summer hols) but I can imagine it gets quite bad at high peak times.
If you wanted to stay just outside Keswick, Portinscale is just down the road and there is a lovely walk from the village into the town.
I want to go back myself now!!!
:rolleyes:Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!0
