    I'm no expert but here goes!

    Go to the library and borrow a book like The Zulu Principle.

    Investing a regular amount like £100 is fine but not in individual shares. A fund is better, though less exciting. A regular amount soon adds up.

    Wise to create a base with a cash ISA first as well.

    For online dealing I use iii. I think they were the cheapest and have been fine when I've had to phone them.

    NatWest Stockbrokers also offer a monthly drip feed similar to Halifax plus opening a new account means you get entered into a free competition, not sure what the prize is this month but last month it was a Mini car. Of course you don't join NatWest for the free compo entry but if everything else is the same as elsewhere then it may be an option worthy of interest.
