Huge saving for staying with supplier

Just a quick post from me.

Just done a confused.com / moneysupermarket / uswitch.com search to check my gas and electricity prices. (I usually do one every couple of months).

I'm currently with nPower and have been for the last 2 years. They have continued to come up cheapest for every search I did over the last year but I decided to ring them to find out what they could do. I had a feeling that I might be able to change the tariff.

After a very short phone call to them followed by a ring back from them I found out that by staying with them but on a different tariff I will save £50 a year for electricity and a massive £170 a year for gas!! Saving a huge £220 a year for continuing to do what I have been doing for the last 2 years!! No change of supplier needed. No new accounts etc.

LOVE IT!! Happy Moneysaving everyone!! :T

Every time I check. I'm cheaper with British Gas. The only bad thing is I can't check other tariffs. As I'm pre payment for gas and electricity. Therefore only gives me other suppliers pre payment rates.

Be careful you understand what they have offered you.

My concern is that the better tariff wasn't highlighted by any of the comparison sites you regularly use
(I know uSwitch allows you to select only tariffs you can switch to using uSwitch, but I'm sure you wouldn't have done that;) - not even sure if the other 2 sites offer that facility, usually they just list everything)

Unless you have been offered something like a social tariff because of your individual circumstances, then the comparison sites should have brought up the new tariff you have been offered if it really was going to save you money.

Thanks Premier for the advice. I might not have been very clear in my post but think I've checked the things you raised.

All three of the price comparison websites compare the different utilities. The only thing I was unsure about was the tariff I was currently on so I guessed - after a phone call to nPower it appears that I guessed correctly so the savings are against my current tariff.

My searches using the comparison sites was highlighting the better tariff each time - but through my laziness, I never actually checked to see if that was the tariff I was on.

In fact the top two tariffs on offer for me were 'Sign Online' and 'Dual Fixed' and both were offered to me on the phone when I rang. The Sign Online was the better so that's what I have changed to.

Bryando - are you able to find out your annual usage? That's how I checked mine
