Main Dealer? Or Independent?

  • I have a full service history on my car, much more detailed and comprehensive than a garage could offer. Just because it doesn't have a stamp doesn't mean it hasn't been serviced correctly.

Sorry you may think you know more than your local dealer - but do you really expect a stranger to think you know more than a dealer? If i was buying a car from you and your produced a service book with your own stamp on (i am assuming your note a mechanic here) i would laugh at you. Most people's cars are the second most expensive posession after their home. And those like me would like a mechanic who has years of experience of collectively with their colleagues has years of experience than someone with a haynes manual and a spanner to have looked after a potential car they're considering buying.

Try convincing a potential buyer, most would just walk away.

Any big jobs on the car—jobs that require expensive machinery or tools—and it goes to the local indie. Regular servicing I do myself. It isn't rocket science, in fact its remarkably simple once you know how.

Any reduction in the value of the car due to it not having stamped service history is massively outweighed by the savings I've made working on the car myself.

Main dealer while it's under warranty to avoid the hassle, then a local independent for the jobs I don't want to do, otherwise myself for the rest.
I run the cars into the ground, so no service stamps after 3 years make no difference to the sale price eventually after 10+ years.
I do use branded parts though, (usually on a trade card) as I figure I save enough on the labour.
