Credit Card Charges and Interest

Hi, i am looking to claim back credit card charges during the period i was unemployed and claiming job seekers. At the time I wrote to each credit card company with a expenditure form explaining i was unemployed and couldn't afford the minimum payments but still they would keep charging me fees.
My question is how can i find out exactly what fees where charged during that period and can i also claim back interest which was charged during this period?

Like i said i was writing to each credit card at least twice a month explaining my circumstances and can they hold interest and any charges but none did which made the debt rise bigger.

Thanks

Read through this Ryan. It gives you step by step things to do.

If you get stuck, ask on this thread for help.
  • You cannot claim interest charges.

You agreed to a certain interest rate on the monies you borrowed. The Credit Card is under no obligation to scrap the interest,
just because you ask them to.

Unless you have seriously defaulted, they are not likely to wave the interest charges.

True. But with that said, you can claim the interest on the charges. Again refer to the link give for the info.

I would reclaim them on the basis the c/card lender didn't treat you fairly whilst in hardship. They had guidance to follow; this has now been strengthened but isnt retrospective but for an idea of how they SHOULD have treated you have a read of the Lending Code http://www.lendingstandardsboard.org.uk/docs/lendingcode.pdf SECTION 9 - you could take it to the Ombudsman on that basis once you have your charges list. Are they still charging you now?

  • Thanks for all your replies, i didn't initially write to the credit card companies asking for a list of charges and i doub't they will send me a list of what interest they added on each month. I sent an initial letter given to me from the CAB from this website. Now i have written to all the companies is there still a point of writing to them asking for a list of charges? What i worked out was close but not exact.

Barclaycard wrote to me saying they feel there charges were fair but as a offer of goodwill and no admission of liability an offer of £144.00. They also sent a list of charges from the last 6 years which equals this amount. Problem is, it was the interest which hit me hardest.
