help finding lost documents on microsoft word
Comments

I used to lose documents quite often but sometimes I found that in Wordpad
if I clicked on FILE there would be a list of documents I had done recently. One thing is for sure, it will be on that computer somewhere. I had XP btw and liked it much better than Vista.0 -

Is it possible that you could have opened the file from email to begin with? This could mean it was saving to a temporary file instead of to a word directory.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but surely it wouldn't have allowed the OP to make the initial saves if it was in temporary files? IE it would have been read-only opened directly from the email.0 -
No, it does allow you to save into a temporary file (some companies prevent users saving temporary files but if you are using a system that hasn't been tailored by techies it is perfectly possible).
I have supported MS Word for almost 20 years, and it has become a common user error now since we have had integrated email and ms office applications.
