Several years ago, it must be at least seven, I bought a pair of Panasonic cordless telephones. To date they have given me excellent service. However, for some time now one of the set has all but been inaudible, even though it is set for maximum volume.
In all other ways the phone appears perfect. So my question is this: is this about the lifespan of a cordless phone or can members suggest any action I might take in order to restore it to a better working condition?
Second question of course is, if I have to buy a new set of phones any good deals going?
Many thanks

Many thanksSince when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
Analogue, does that make a difference?0

There is no specific lifetime or any bit of electronic kit - in the main it works till it breaks (as that phone seems to have done) and for low value items you bin them.
That said it's probably time to retire analogue cordless phones anyway if only for privacy reasons.0 -
Anyone with a Communications receiver or scanner can listen to your telephone conversation when in range of your home, if you tune to around 31MHz AM you will hear many "older" cordless phones still in use today...not that I earwig on peoples private calls though. ;-)Analogue, does that make a difference?
For the sake of cost, privacy and compatibility, buy some new ones from Argos etc for about £40.

Cordless DECT phone
The Phillips range for simplicity and budget are brilliant.
If you are feeling affluent - the Panasonic still trounce the rest.
Note: BT phones havbe gone down in reliability dramatically since outsourcing to a 3rd world builder, avoid.
Insider knowledge of these systems, backed up by WHICH!0 -
Ive heard a few stories now of 'DECT' phones affecting tv signals:idea:0

I've been looking at DECT phone reviews recently and the most consistently recommended are Panasonics (although recent models get some criticism for audio quality and levels) and Siemens Giagaset. We went with Siemens (got a very good deal on a twin pack with answering machine from Argos) and we're very happy with them. John Lewis had a good triple pack deal in store if you need three phones. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.
