she is only 9 months old?? Is this normal? i was expecting it to be around the age of 1. She is a blue staff (and so adorable.)
She is fine with it, hasn't changed her in anyway and we have a male dog who hasn't even bothered with her - yet, although they are seperated when they are left alone.
Is it a while yet before she gives off a scent of being in season to other dogs? I thought it would be straight away, also my male has been neutered so could this be why he isn't bothered?

I think 9 months is normal. The scent will increase until a peak in the middle of the season. When are you having her spayed?0

When are you having her spayed?
As soon as possible!!
We are going away end of july and no one will have her if she is in season so i will be speaking to the vet end of this month to see when is suitable, apparantley you have to leave them for a good 6 weeks after the bleeding has stopped to make sure all blood has gone etc.
also is it ok that she will of only had one season when she gets spayed or should she have a couple more etc?0 -
It's ok to have a b.i.t.c.h. spayed even before a first season preferably at 6 months of age and yes the reason your male dog has no interest is because he has no balls

a spey after the first season is ideal - the more you let her have, the higher her risk of mammary tumours later in life.0

right off to the vets next month it is then.0

Do be aware that she is at her most interesting to dogs for about ten days after her bleeding stops.. but do be careful before that too - dogs have been known to smell a b1tch in heat from up to 4 miles away and will try and scale/dig under fences if they are interested enough! It is wise to supervise her all the time outdoors...0

Seasons last about 3ish weeks, first one is the bleed - nothing really to worry about. Then at about day 10 is when she becomes fertile for up to 2 weeks afterwards so watch out! Male dogs will come a running!
Get her spayed 2-3 months after her first season. If you get them done before their first season - 100% chance of NOT getting mammary tumours, this drops to around 74% after their first and then drops dramatically to something like 20% after their 2nd (not accurate, cant remember exact numbers).
Most beatches come into season between the ages of 6 and 18 months so she is completely normal!0 -

Think there is a lot of conflicting advice on when to spay as our vets told us to leave her to have a season before spaying and after googling on internet i found arguments for spaying both before season and letting them have one first
But we had to wait 3 months after her season to have her spay to let everything calm down....i couldn't wait to have it done though, so much less stress for all of us..dog included

There has been arguments and discussion in the Veterinary community re spaying before and after first season. Before = no chance of getting mammary cancer, only down point is there MAY be a slight chance if increased chance of incontinence later on in life (still LOTS of studies going on). After = slightly increased chance of getting mammary cancer.0

So do vets recommend getting your dog spayed, what are the risks of never getting her spayed? My MIL has a b.i.t.c.h and she has never been spayed, is she more at risk of anything?0
