Change of LA while AST still running

We've entered into AST agreement in Feb 09 which expires in Feb 10. Our LA informed us that we would be dealing with a different LA from now on as he was not in charge of the property any longer. He signed the agreement in the LL's name and assured us that the AST agreement would convert to periodic in Feb 10.
Questions:
Do we need to get confirmation from the new LA that they will honour our current contract? If we get to the end of our AST agreement and we have not given notice to vacate, does the 2 month min notice period still apply?

Thanks for your help.

Regardless of who signed the AST, your contract is with the landlord not the letting agent so a change of agent is irrelevant. I would, however, insist on written confirmation from the landlord of any changes to payment, not take the letting agents word for it. You only need to vacate if the landlord has served you with a two month S21 notice to quit, sometimes this is done at the start of the tenancy so check your paperwork carefully.

My brother signed a AST which ends late Feb 2010, it was a 6 month agreement with Feb 2010 ending the fixed term period.Does it matter that its a fixed term if he and the landlord are happy will the tennancy are they able to carry on indefinately as a periodic tennancy requiring 2 months notice in the future to end the agreement.
    Thanks

AFAIK all ASTs are an initial fixed term (six months minimum) and all ASTs roll over to periodic providing an S21 has not been served.

I'm being a little pedantic but this is not technically true as an AST can be periodic from the start or could have a fixed period of 3 or even only 2 months. However, a LL is unable to serve a S21 notice Seeking possession before 6 months hence in reality LL's offer 6 month minimum tenancies so that the T is locked in for the same period as the LL.

A change of LA (or even a change of LL) does not in any way affect the validity of your tenancy agreement.

Does this mean he is on a fixed term and will roll over to periodic tennancy.
My brothers AST started on the 23rd September and reads The agreement shall end on the 22nd of February 2010.
    or
The tenancy shall terminate upon either party serving upon the other the required statutory notice. If there is no fixed period specified, the tennancy shall be a periodic tennancy governed by the frequency of the rent payments as stipulated above.
    He pays calendar monthly rent.
    Thanks

When my LA changed (only 6 weeks in to the tennancy though) I got a new letter from DPS as the new LA had to reregister the deposit.
    Make sure yours is okay.
