I agree with Ormus. One could argue that as you've already had problems resolved that your less likely to have further problems?
Please tell me, if i won the lotto last week should i buy a ticket this week? ...u see my point :D You are also playing a gambling game..just over probabilty of central heating system failure rather than a machine picking balls!

The boiler/central heating insurance sales [STRIKE]scheme [/STRIKE]scam, as with all insurances, relies on pooling together the premiums paid by their [STRIKE]customers [/STRIKE]victims
to cover the cost for repairs and servicing plus administration costs. Some obviously will get their monies worth from the insurance...however to ensure it's profitable to the supplier of the scheme the majority clearly won't! If nothing goes wrong with your boiler then you've needlessly paid £227.88 for a service costing £100 ..that's some markup!

Also consider a change to your gas supplier..if your with British Gas you'll most likely be paying over the odds. The money you save may cover the cost of an annual service. So i suggest two-pronged attack...change supplier and ditch the insurance and put your savings to one side and dip into them once a year for a service...whats left covers repair costs.

Also if your still with British Gas for gas you may needlessly be with the regional electricity supplier rather than a cheaper one so again you could put some savings towards the "central heating fund" by changing supplier.

To give you an example my gas and electricity are with Atlantic Electric & Gas.. by changing to them i got cashback from energyhelpline (covered my first year boiler service). With Atlantic once a year i also get the equivalent of 1 month of gas/electric when paid by direct debit as cashback...more money to cover boiler servicing/repair costs. In 3 years i haven't needed a repair to my heating system. If i'd paid £227.88 for your insurance..i'd have paid £683.64..what i actually paid was £50 (first year boiler service was cheaper for me) which i got for nothing through cashback anyway..though i should reallly also have paid another £200 for servicing which would have been covered by the other savings i've made!

Having said this my boiler will probably now pack in...but the £633.64 i've saved vs that insurance should be more than enough to cover a repair!

To perhaps attempt to address the actual question posed....

I think you should be able to get it cheaper. I was unhappy with my renewal quote & rang up the provider and they lowered mine by £5 per month.

I went armed with information from other providers (as well as what my current peeps would offer a new customer). So for example looking at the British Gas website, BG (who tend to be perceived as being relatively expensive) Homecare 200 would be a maximum of £17.33 per month for boiler & controls, radiators, hot water & pipework, with annual service & parts/labour included. That adds up to £207.96. You can also get £40 cashback if you apply using the quidco.com cashback site.

I would imagine (from when i did my research) that other providers such as Homeserve and Eon will be cheaper than BG. Good luck!
