Have checked the Sheba website and they are stopping production of Sheba cat nosh, this will not impress my two furry terrorists.

Any recommendations for alternatives, they will turn their noses up at lesser brands.

This brand is excellent & contains good stuff!

It's Pets@Home's own brand but very very good! The small tins of fish for example have no addatives.

The closest I'd say you'd get to Sheba is Gourmet Gold/Pearl.

Thanks but have tried all 3 of those on my pickycats the Purely range was discarded with a complete disdain.

    Looks like its Iams then.

I know the feeling,my Daisy's a fussy little girl, she wont eat anything in gravy!
  • Mine liked Iams until they tried the Aldi sensitive cat crunchies. Now they laugh at the offer of mere Iams.

It's a bit of a faff having to go to Lidl and Aldi for cat stuff (esp when the litter and the remainder of the heavy household shopping is conveniently delivered by Ocado), but at £2.49, I'm not complaining loudly!

IMHO neither IAMS nor Sheba are particularly good value for money, you are paying a lot for the advertising. I'd suggest choosing a new brand and mixing the two together for a while, perhaps just 20% and working your way up as they get used to the new brand.

Brands that have a high meat content (as opposed to animal derivatives) include Pets at Home Purely, Bozita, Tesco Luxury and Feline Fayre. Alternatively you might try them on a small amount of raw meat when you are cooking - if that goes down well raw chicken wings and Food4Cats mince mixes are very reasonably priced.

Thanks, I will try a few of your suggestions, and see what happens.

Edit: Is IAMS a good food? am not that fussed about the cost, as I can get into the pet wholesalers if needs be.

I don't think IAMS kibble is an ideal food for an obligate carnivore like a cat: my interpretation of value for money is a food with a high meat content. Cats have NO requirement for carbohydrates in their diet: the addition of maize, wheat and rice to cat food is simply profiteering. ;)

The IAMS rich in chicken is 26% meat, better than most of the supermarket own brands and other big names (Go Cat, Whiskas, 4%) but not a patch on Hills (~50%), Fish4Cats (70%), Pets at Home Purely More Meat (70%), Orijen (75%) or Applaws (80%).

These foods are marginally more expensive than IAMS but you should see a lot less coming out of the other end (i.e. wasted money)! Noah dropped from three poops per day to one when I switched from James Wellbeloved and Felix to high meat foods - and this was an overnight change. :T

So the pet food companies are basically increasing their profit margin by bulking out their foods with unneeded additives? Funnily enough,Daisy's poo's have decreased since I switched her dry onto Purina One.

    LOL @ Cats

If one of mine ever gets food with gravy she sucks all the gravy off it and spits it back out completely dry!
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
