I was just pointing out some random scenarios, that was all.kwikbreaks wrote: »Indeed it is and often for the reasons you mention but in this case it is a sudden onset problem and water ingress is a gradual process. Very gradual when the water is solid as it is now.
There is rather a large difference between 3dB and 20dB and in any event incorrect antenna installation is irrelevant because the problem onset was sudden and coincided with the recent high pressure so the cause is obvious.
Well the high pressure has not been that generous for my radio hobby, not as many VHF contacts as I would have liked.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -

Indeed you were
I've an amateur licence too but I never seem to find the time and energy to pursue the hobby. Maybe when I retire.

Use it while it lasts, the way things are going with these PLT "noise generators" we will have very little usable radio spectrum left.kwikbreaks wrote: »> I was just pointing out some random scenarios, that was all.

I'm not sure what will happen there. I actually own some and mine generate no noise on any HF ham band that I can detect although I wouldn't like to be a SWL near them. I'm moving soon and I've network cabled the new house so I won't need them any more. Ethernet can screw up VHF though as I found with my weather satellite receiver - I had to change over to STP cables near to it.Use it while it lasts, the way things are going with these PLT "noise generators" we will have very little usable radio spectrum left.0 -
Yes, I had an issue on 6 Metres with noise and tried many tricks in the book to resolve it, the noise was typical around S7, I made up some shielded Ethernet cables and it was reduced dramatically, could still here faint carriers but the were less than S1.kwikbreaks wrote: »I'm not sure what will happen there. we lost the same channels about a week ago for a day or so. Since Wednesday we can't get any TV channels but then the aerial is covered in snow and ice so I'm hoping it will all come back once the thaw starts.0

...there was no signal, that's on Freesat. Went and tried the Tv in the lounge which is Freeview and it was fine...
A bit of ice on dish - as I found today. Not visible from a distance and in my case easily removed by pouring warm water over dish & LNB cover - presto, reception returns. Another reason not to place your dish on top of the roof.0
