For all those who are concerned about the number and nature of threatening letters from creditors, please do not be alarmed.
When I became unemployed in May 2009 I too was worried about meeting my debts and although I had various PPI policies they all turned out to be invalid.
Since June 2009 I have managed to reclaim the following, despite threatening letters, intimidation and harrassment:
£3500 plus interest from Lloyds TSB for mis-sold PPI
£2300 from Bank of Scotland for mis-sold PPI plus £1000 damages
£1400 on behalf of my partner for unlawful bank charges (despite the ruling)
Written off £24000 for a car loan taken out in 2008
Pursuing Lloyds TSB for £10k in damages for credit card irregularities
Written off £3000 on my partner's car finance agreement
I am just awaiting £12k payout from my MPPI policy plus a refund of half my paid premiums
There have also been a number of smaller victories. I am no lawyer however, I do know my rights, how to construct a letter and how to react to threats and intimidation. It is all about standing your ground and fighting fire with fire. Although it may appear forlorn on occasions the perserverence is well worth the effort.
