in Techie Stuff
I used to work in IT so everyone assumes that I 'know', but the fact is I'd never heard of a quad core until my FIL started wittering at me about them 2 days ago. I have a cheapie Medion from Aldi which does everything I need, a wonderful techie who sorts out problems I can't cope with and I never worked in hardware/support. So I thought I'd ask here because I bet there's a 'wo/man who can'.
This is primarily for use by a bookkeeper - needs to run SAGE and connect remotely to the networks of the businesses she works for. General web browsing, iPlayer, and some photo manipulation (but shoots in RAW and uses professional level software) No gaming. Budget is about £500.
Any suggestions as to basic spec to look for or any bargains that might fit the requirements?

First thing to check is will windows 7 be suitable as most new pc's will have this pre-installed.
Check the programs, printers etc that will be used can be run on windows 7. Also check what versions of windows work with the network connection software so it can be used remotely.0 -
I'd seriously consider the Aldi retailed PC mentioned in the thread previous to this one. It looks fab for the money.

Unlikely to be any left now. They normally sell out within a couple of minutes of the store opening. It's my problem, it's my problem

We don't have a local Aldi, it's a ferry trip away, if I'd known about it yesterday it might have been an option but I'm not even sure we could have made it to the ferry LOLEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
