xBox 360 and repairs/insurance

Hi - my son has an Xbox 360 - bought from Argos in Nov 2007.
Because we'd had lots of problems with a previous one we took out insurance - Argos Extended Guarantee - covering 3 yrs breakdown up to Nov 2010.
It went wrong last summer, then Nov, then Dec and now again this week. I ring the insurers - Allianz -and then get put onto the repair company (Colchester Computer & Repair Centre) who collect and repair it.
However having it going wrong now almost every week wasn't what we had imagined.
The policy says it will give us given Argos vouchers to buy another only 'if the insurer declares the product impossible or uneconomical to repair'.
Son is now wondering when/if this will happen - or can they just keep patching up the one we have every few weeks? Not rung them yet this time because of snow anyway but wondered if anyone could advice me? I did ask about a replacement before Christmas but was just told its up to the repairers to declare it irrepairable - which they might never do.
Luckily son has other consoles but he would actually like the Xbox to be usable.

my brother has an xbox and sends it back to Microsoft directly. I would check whether its still covered (i think most firms guarantee for one yr) tho his x box is 3 yrs old now and hes sent it back at least once a year. Microsoft know there are problems with it overheatin etc.
i would perhaps speak to your insurer and Microsoft sepreately, as they must realise that continually sendin the dsame unit to be repaired only provides a quick fix.
I actually use the repair place you mentioned and while acceptable i did notice there was an awful lot of dust under my psp screen when they replaced it.
(When i went in to the workshop they literally had hundreds of xboxes lined up all broken, it was like a gamers graveyard!)
Good luck whatever you decide.0 -
The 3 year extended from MS only covers the RROD (3 red lights on the ring).
What do you mean by "going wrong"?0 -
Sorry being vague - its the E74 error with one red light at the bottom.0

if its an E74 error have you tried another av cable (the cable connecting to tv) if thats not fixing it then its more likely to be a scaler chip problem on the mainboardWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
Xbox 360 bought in April '07 - RROD 4 times, fixed under extended warrenty.
RROD for the 5th time in December, OH called CEO of Argos and 'had a word'.......
He sent off his xbox and receipt and got a refund cheque of full purchase price (£279.99) by return of post. (didn't refund the psotage but hey - let's not be greedy!)
I suggest you go to the top and complain - good luck xSome days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Thanks for replies.
Will have to sort once snow gone.
Son wants me to contact Argos - don't have a receipt (bought off internet I think) - but do have cert of insurance as proof - but will have to check old Barclaycard statements to find price paid - not listed on insurance stuff for some reason.0 -
:T:TUpdate - just to let you know we wrote to CEO of Argos - had phone call straight away - to return XBox for voucher to get another - plus they'll refund postage. I've also got a direct number to call any time there are problems. So son delighted.
Thanks for the all the advice.0
