Help Before I get in Geeks on Wheels - Outlook Express

I am hoping that someone on this wonderful site may be able to help me with a problem.

Running Outlook Express on Windows 98 SE, had a freeserve email account which until I went onto Talk Talk broadband used to dial up to the POP3 account and then download and send mail with no problems.

Incoming Mail Server pop.freeserve.net
Outgoing Mail Server smtp.freeserve.net

Since I have moved from BT to Talk talk I can receive emails with no problem but sending it seems to give me the following error message

Your Server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

Account "pop freeserve.net", server "smtp.freeserve.net", Protocol: SMTP, Port:25, Secure SSL: No, error Number 0X8000CCC0F.

Do I need to change the outgoing mail server?

I have not got an email account set up with Talk Talk Im wanting to keep my email with freeserve.

Is there anyone out there that may be able to provide me with guidance.

Many Thanks

Try ticking or unticking the "My Server requires Authentication" this is located in your account settings under were you type the POP and Smtp Settings.

Also something like Norton Anti spam and email checkers can cause this issue

Have also had this issue when a friend Changed isp, his old isp would allow him to recieve messages through there server but as he was no longer there customer they would let him sent through their server , so the awnser would be to reply via talk talks email address instead of replying to the email through freeserve.

Sorry just read your post again (yes change your out going mail server)
If it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anyway

The problem maybe because you're trying to access Freeserve mail from a TalkTalk connection it is being blocked.

I suggest you use your TalkTalk mail account and have your Freeserve mail forwarded if you can. Otherwise maybe Freeserve have a webmail you can use. They might also have a dial up number you can use to connect so you can pick up your mail.

Thats right you will have to set up a Talk Talk mail account.
Why would you think that wanadoo would continue to host your e-mail when you no longer subscribe to them?
It might be an idea to use a webmail service like Google mail, then you will be independent of your isp in future.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

as long as they "dial in" the old fashioned way to freeserve then they can keep the email alive, cost 5p every 60 days

but I do agree that a Gmail account is the long term way to go to make yourself independent

Thankyou all for responses its very much appreciated.

The freeserve account was not provided through an ISP I just dialled up each time and have been charged the cost of the call.

I'm assuming that it is the same principle as a hotmail account. Ive not paid any ISP for hosting etc.

I have tried the SMTP.talktalk.net and it still gives me the same problem.

I hope that this makes sense.

    Thankyou very much

How do you dial in the old fashioned way when I know have broadband set up.

We must be doing something right as the mail is being received ok.

Also how do you turn off spam email since we moved to broadband there is an awful lot of spam mail coming through.

    Thankyou

It won't work as TalkTalk don't allow relaying, which is what you're trying to do.

I'd just sign up for talk talk email, put those details in the outgoing mail server (settings button next to the "my server requires authentication" bit, enter the talktalk details by ticking the "logon using " button ) that may work
