Just a little update and a few questions

I have been on peopleperhour and freelancer.com for a few weeks and not yet had a bid accepted, although have had a few messages from employers and have given a few samples (don't worry, it's team-sensitive stuff so can't be used by them). I'm starting to get a good feel for how the sites work which gives me confidence.

I've noticed on a few jobs, though, that people are quoting rates of $0.30 per 100 words. How can anybody realistically be expected to work for that? I know that a lot of the people on these sites have pretty poor English, but how are you supposed to compete with people who will work for peanuts? To me, it would be a complete waste of time to write a 500w piece for the equivalent of £1.

Anyway, I'm sure there will be a lot of people looking for quality over quantity and hoping to get a some jobs soon.

Ignore those stupidly low bids and bid at your price, the sites attract people that say they can do the work at a silly price, and then they might end up providing less than satisfactory work, or copy/pasted work

Send samples only that you are happy with, and only to 'employers' that 1. bid at a realistic budget and 2. are samples you are happy with

And one more thing, if you are only starting out then you may have to bid lower for now to get a portfolio built

Again, pm me if you want to hear my personal experiences or post questions here
