Used to have the same problem. Had a Honeywell Programmable room thermostat fitted along with thermostatic radiator valves on all but one radiator. Makes it very easy to control the heat throught the whole house, spare room thats never used I have the rad valve set to position 1, just enough to take the edge of the room without wasting energy keeping the room at 18 degrees. All the gear I got from Discounted Heating .co.uk
