This is for DS1. He's very bright and has very good language skills but is dyspraxic/dyslexic so while the contents shouldn't be aimed at kids it still needs to be clear, simple and well laid out. He loves his meat, is not keen on puddings/cream (except banoffi pie) and wants to learn to cook. (He doesn't live with me so I can't teach him and while his dad makes an excellent curry he's not a good 'basic' cook - he thinks onions always have to be browned and everything has to be done at a rolling boil LOL - and he doesn't like his stepmum's food at all)
Any ideas?

I bought my son a copy of Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food - pretty basic, easy to read, and has simple recipes + variations on them.

I agree, The Ministry of Food would be an excellent choice for a teen age boy. Lots of clear pictures and the type of things teens like to eat.
My boys have the Sam Stern books but haven't really used them.0 -
My son is 17, he was never keen on kids cook books, now enjoys searching the net to find new recipes. Might be of interest for your son. I can't post the link thing he watches video jug. Shows someone making the recipe and then the ingredients and utensil required are written down the side. Hope this is of help. BTx0

I came into this thread to recomend Jamie's Ministry of Food, but everyone else already has :rotfl:
It is great though. I keep getting out out of the library, taking it back because someone else has requested it and then ordering it again, I'm going to have to give in and buy a copy0 -
Have you thought about any of the student cook-books? Some of those are aimed at teenagers who can't cook at all so they have clear and simple instructions.
**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

looks like it's a choice of one and a half LOL. I've gone for the Ministry of Food and got Amazon to gift wrap it - probably would have been marginally cheaper to have it sent here and then posted it on but less risk of it not getting there this way. Thank you everyone for your input, the Sam Stern books are on the list for next year...Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
