lease extension

I have been trying to extend my lease for over 4 years now, but the freehold keeps changing hands. This has cost me a great deal in solicitors fees. I have tracked down the current freeholder via the land registry but they have not replied to any correspondence from my solicitors.
If they continue to ignore me is there anyway I can extend?
To make matters complicated there is a head leassee to whom I pay the ground rent and insurance. His lease is the same length as mine so he needs to surrender it before I can extend mine. Again, this is made impossible by seemingly absent freeholders.
The property is above a shop (vacant) which I guess is the freeholders interest.
It is down to 69 years now! Does that make it as difficult to sell as it used to be?

Simone you need to speak to the leasehold advisory service tomorrow and they will help you. If you have been trying for that long and have served officical notice then you should be able to extend the lease. You might need help from the tribunal.
